The Early Years
Jamieson Carr began his percussion career at Dozier Middle School in his hometown of Newport News, VA. During the first few years of playing, Jamieson studied drumset and percussion privately with Mr. Howard Curtis. He then moved up to Denbigh High School and joined the Marching Patriots under the direction of Mr. Chris Smith. While at Denbigh, Jamieson participated in the marching drumline and indoor drumline under the instruction of Mr. Adam Robertson. He played bass drum his freshman year and tenors the following three years. During this time he also studied privately with Mr. Robertson specifically on the rudimental aspects of tenor drumming.
While at Denbigh, Jamieson also auditioned for and participated in several All District Bands and All Virginia Band. During his time with these ensembles he performed under the direction of such conductors as David Holsinger, Denton Stokes, and Gary Green. He also began preparing for a university audition with then band director, Mr. Tim Rossettini.
